The Arts

 

At Coventry Christian, our students are exposed to the arts in a broad number of ways.  They have the opportunity to participate in drama productions, chorus, band, and fine art competitions.

Performing Arts

Our performing arts program seeks to include students with various skills and talents to participate together to create beautiful and dynamic productions. Grammar School and Secondary students have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of capacities in our Theater and Technical Theater departments:

  • Acting

  • Singing

  • Stage Managing

  • Costume Design

  • Hair & Makeup

  • Set Construction & Design

  • Lighting & Sound

  • Ushering

Music

Our choral and music program is directed by our music teacher, Caroline Smith. Music is an exciting part of our program for all kindergarten through 12th grade students. Some grades are required to take music, while other grades have the opportunity to take chorus as an extracurricular activity or elective. 

 

Our Grammar School choir, MIddle School Choir, and High School Choir all perform at a Christmas concert, and a Spring Fine Arts Night. High School Choir also performs at the Founders Dinner and ACSI Fine Arts Festival.

Private Lessons

Private piano lessons are offered through CCS teachers Caroline Smith, Rachael Nissley, and Sarah Brown.

 

Band practice and small group lessons are offered to CCS students in grades 4-12 at an additional cost through Northeastern Music Programs (NMP).  Students can take lessons on the flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone or percussion. Lessons are taught by Brook Horne, the band director.

Private violin, viola, and cello lessons are available to students ages 3 and up at an additional cost through Music Kids program. Lessons are taught by Janet Marquardt, the orchestra director. 

Band

CCS's band program and related instrumental lessons are provided in-house through Northeastern Music Programs (NMP) at an additional cost. The band is directed by Brooke Horne, a certified instrumental music teacher employed by the Northeastern Music Program.

Each year, interested students receive information about signing up for band.  Students register online through the NMP website where their parents will pay a monthly fee for lessons/band. Instruments can be rented online through Menchey Music Service.

The band students play many different styles of music such as classical, rock, jazz or movie tunes.  Students play in the large concert band setting and also have opportunities to play solos, duets or other small ensembles. 

​

Orchestra

CCS's orchestra program and related instrumental lessons are provided in-house through Music Kids program at an additional cost. The orchestra is directed by Janet Marquardt, a private instrumental teacher employed by Music Kids with years of experience as a violinist in a variety of orchestras. She also has a Master of Music degree from the University of Arizona.

Orchestra is open to any string students ages 6 and up wishing to have an ensemble experience and play with their peers. Typically, students should have played a string instrument for at least a year before joining an ensemble. The orchestra plays a variety of popular songs, folk songs, and classical or fiddle music.
